Spring break fitness for the entire family

March is here and that means spring break is just around the corner. Are you ready to get the family out of the house and spring into action? If you’ve fallen behind on your New Year’s resolution to exercise more, spring break is the perfect time to put the focus back on health and fitness. Try our Spring Break Family Fitness Ideas this year. It’s best not to let the kids hide behind their screens during spring break.

Spring Break Family Fitness Ideas

Hit the Pool — Aquatic activity equals a full-body workout as the water increases resistance and pull. An hour of swimming burns more than 500 calories! Whether you’re swimming laps, playing water volleyball or taking a water aerobics class, spend some time in the water this spring break.

Sign Up for Spring Activity Camp — Local community organizations, recreational facilities and fitness studies offer fitness-oriented camps that will keep kids and adults active during the week-long holiday. Check out organizations near you for details.

Be a Tourist in Your City — You don’t have to travel to be a tourist. Spend your spring break on foot exploring new parts of your city. Walking can rev up your body’s metabolic engine, burning calories and fat. To determine how many calories you’ll burn per mile of walking, multiply your body weight in pounds by .57. Someone who weighs 175 lbs. will burn about 100 calories per mile.

Outside Family Fitness Activities

Go for a Hike — Get out and enjoy the scenery with a family hike on one of the area’s many trails. If you’re planning a spring break vacation, be sure to pack your sneakers and schedule plenty of time for the family to get out and explore your surroundings.

Ride Your Bike — Get out the bikes, put on your helmets and go for a family bike ride. Take a few laps around the neighborhood, bike to the park or pedal to the local farmers market and pick up some fresh spring produce for dinner.

Play on the Beach — Going on a beach vacation? While it’s fine to relax in the sun, be sure to fit in some action on the beach. Play a family game of beach volleyball, go for a jog or take a sunset walk. The sand adds an extra challenge to any physical activity. Whether you’re running and jumping or simply walking barefoot, your muscles are sure to get a workout.

Regardless of whether you’re spending spring break on the beach, in the mountains or at home, don’t waste the week sitting in front of the TV. Take advantage of the beautiful spring weather Get out there and try our Spring Break Family Fitness ideas. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
