He was a gifted student, he received his medical degree from UT Southwestern, garnering many academic awards along the way as well as receiving the highest scores on multiple nationally ranked exams. Dr. McCarty began performing bariatric surgery in 1998 after completing 8 years of surgical training. He trademarked and patented the Mini sleeve and was experienced with complex revision surgery. He was an ASMBS Master Surgeon of Excellence and a member of the Texas Medical Association. Dr. McCarty was a leader in his field and his many contributions will continue to benefit the medical community for years to come. Dr. McCarty had many passions outside of the professional realm. He had an appreciation for nature, well known for his love of dogs, gardening, painting and being outside working the grill. He loved studying science and building rockets, and could just as easily be found playing chess or cribbage as watching the UFC. He was a dedicated husband, father and surgeon, putting his whole heart into everything he did. Dr. McCarty was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Mason McCarty and Delores Jenean Donahue. He is survived by his wife Crystal Dawn McCarty, sons Cristopher Mason McCarty, Brian Patrick McCarty and Joshua Jadon Brown, and his sister Robyn Allyson Herman.
