Bariatric surgery is a tool that can set you on the right path toward achieving your weight loss goals, but it is just one piece of the puzzle. Here are five tips to help you commit to a weight loss program and find motivation to lose weight.

Stop making excuses and putting off change for another day. Whether you are considering weight loss surgery for the first time or already have your procedure booked, now is the time to begin making the lifestyle changes that you’ll need to continue after bariatric surgery.

  1. Know your goals.

Work with your doctor to develop S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and trackable) goals. Remember, the weight loss journey looks different for every individual, so be careful not to compare your process and success to that of others. Stay focused on your goal and take the day-to-day steps necessary to achieve your weight loss goal.
